Lake of la Blanche

The lake of la Blanche

The Lac de La Blanche has developed on the site of former gravel pits and features a chaotic marsh landscape where vegetation and wildlife coexist alongside overhead power lines. It is a taste of the peninsula’s vast wet and industrial landscapes that can be found further north. The 150-acre site is often visited by fishermen and even walkers. For a long time the Lac de La Blanche was a well-kept secret, however, it is now in full development and the aim is to increase its appeal across the wider city. It provides a large leisure space suitable for water activities (boating, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming, etc.) and the city council already organises sporting and cultural events here.

The Prism (Le Prisme)

The Prism, imagined by the visual artist Lou-Andréa Lassalle, stands on the edge of a lake. The Prism, just like its location, is enigmatic ; it gathers in all the energy from La Blanche.
It conjures up the hidden nature of the landscape specific to this lake, where black bass can be found alongside the monsters contained in these deep waters, high-voltage pylons and nature covered in fog.

“The Prism is a place between two dimensions. A place to retreat to, conducive to revelations. A new omen, a place to be alone or in a group putting the world to rights. Both lights and the world diffract through the glazed sides of this shelter, revealing unexpected nuances. We rediscover the landscape and all its different spectra that are invisible to the naked eye. A horizon full of phantasmagorical visions that were just waiting to be revealed. Through the lens of this shelter, a whole universe is waiting to be reinvented, in this intimate and silent place, floating between reality and dreams.” Lou-Andréa Lassalle

Suburban Shelters

A project imagined by Bruit du frigo,
carried out in collaboration with Zébra3,
for Bordeaux Métropole

A unique concept

To improve our understanding of our cities, we have to venture out onto their pathway, into their hidden areas and their borders. Explore these unknown areas on foot. Stop. Spend the night.

Bordeaux’s suburban shelters offer 11 artistic observatories of a constantly moving metropolis, all of them connected together by a network of paths and back roads.

11 works of architecture that relate to their environment, that invite the walker, the resident, the visitor, to take a fresh look at the suburbs.  To rediscover, step by step, the great outdoors that is on the city’s doorstep, taking a contemporary and innovative stroll off the beaten track.
