Ermitage park

The Ermitage Park is one of the many parks that makes up the Parc des Coteaux on the right bank of Bordeaux. The park has been built on the remains of an old cement quarry and provides a location like no other in the city: the character of a modestly equipped, wild wasteland ; a distinct and unexpected elevated area in Bordeaux ; spectacular views of the city; miles of pathways; a turquoise lake within a vast hollow. For those who find it, it is an unforgettable experience, and a surprise to have this little piece of “Canadian park” nestled in the heart of an urban area and only 10 minutes’ walk from the tram.
The Cloud is delicately positioned next to the lake.

The Cloud (Le Nuage)

Situated at the end of a small slope, on the bank of a lake that is surrounded by a dense hillside, this architectural “folly,” with its rounded lines, promises to be an unusual shelter in the middle of nature, yet just a stone’s throw away from the city. Fall asleep to the sound of the croaking frogs, wake up to the sound of the birds… This cumulus-shaped work is a nod to utopian architecture, tinged with memories of caravanning; it highlights the mythical aspect of the cabin and causes us to daydream.

Suburban Shelters

A project imagined by Bruit du frigo,
carried out in collaboration with Zébra3,
for Bordeaux Métropole

A unique concept

To improve our understanding of our cities, we have to venture out onto their pathway, into their hidden areas and their borders. Explore these unknown areas on foot. Stop. Spend the night.

Bordeaux’s suburban shelters offer 11 artistic observatories of a constantly moving metropolis, all of them connected together by a network of paths and back roads.

11 works of architecture that relate to their environment, that invite the walker, the resident, the visitor, to take a fresh look at the suburbs.  To rediscover, step by step, the great outdoors that is on the city’s doorstep, taking a contemporary and innovative stroll off the beaten track.
