Walk around the Shelters #1

Suburban Walks

Gradignan > Bègles

This walk proposes to explore the southern quarter of the agglomeration. It revolves around the 3 Suburban Shelters set up in Gradignan, Pessac and Bègles. The itinerary links the large parks and natural areas of the area, takes many existing paths and follows more particularly the Eau Bourde river, a 22 kms long river which takes its source in Cestas and flows into the Garonne at Bègles.

Crossing also residential areas, road and rail infrastructures, commercial centers, wastelands, this hike offers an atypical odyssey into the backdrop of the peripheral city, the one that you don’t look at, the one that you usually only practice by car.

Suburban Walks

An extraordinary journey
into the ordinariness of our contemporary cities

A dive into the urban interstices

The Suburban Walks are exploratory walks through the outskirts of the cities. They cross and connect hybrid and fragmented landscapes, composed of housing estates, social housing complexes, old towns, expressways, industrial and commercial areas, car parks and electricity pylons, but also unexpected parks and gardens, forgotten forests, old paths and especially uncountable abandoned spaces where wild nature develops, out of sight. This diffuse and involuntary nature represents a tremendous potential for escape and resourcing, a kind of exoticism of proximity.
