Square Monrepos

Floirac

Winner of the participatory budget implemented by the City of Floirac, the association “ça marche pour Jaurès”, accompanied by a group of residents, mobilized to develop the Square Monrepos. The objective of this citizens’ initiative was to reinforce a square that is very busy but under-developed and little valued.

Bruit du frigo was requested by the project leaders and the city of Floirac to design and build a durable furniture in the square.
The challenges and objectives of this project were to design a collective and inclusive layout for the square that meets the needs and expectations of residents,  participate in its vitality and its valorization in the neighborhood and also generate times of conviviality on the square.

Bruit du frigo has set up co-design workshops to determine the location and uses of the future construction. It quickly became obvious that the project would be implemented in an old basin, central to the park but now a waste water no longer in the water for several years. The users’ desire was to work with a very visual and sculptural furniture, which is dynamic, collective and colorful and can become an emblematic element in the square.
Based on these two postulates an imaginary story, a myth was created, a water monster escaping from this basin: the project Poulp’fiction was born to embody the square Monrepos.
Inspired by this new element, the city of Floirac decided to transform the old pond into a fountain.

In Floirac, a giant octopus escaped from its pool to explore the square Monrepos. Recognizable by its elongated head, two big eyes, almost violet brown color and tentacles, attention the octopus of Monrepos has woken up!
Generous, it becomes a collective public space, multigenerational and multi-purpose.
His head is an agora, a collective furniture to meet, discuss and meet. It signals and welcomes the people who are arriving in the square.
Its tentacles spread around a basin, energized by water jets, to propose collective seats with variations in levels and suction cups rhythmic the course.

The furniture was made during a participatory project in February 2024 and inaugurated during a party organized by the collective Ça marche pour Jaurès and the City of Floirac in May 2024.

The Poulp’Fiction project was chosen prize coup de coeur of the participatory jury at the Agenda 21 trophies of the department of Gironde.
