Séminaire Square

Saint-Michel neighbourhood

Bordeaux

Design of the Séminaire square as part of a participatory project with the inhabitants of the St. Michel neighbourhood. The project proposes a floor plan in concrete and stone representing the map of the neighbourhood. A green band, the only touch of colour, suggests the possible opening of the Ramparts garden, an exceptional green space that is not accessible. A red circular bench with the inscription “you are here” locates the square on the plan.

This commission from the city of Bordeaux is a continuation of the project Atelier d’urbanisme utopique (“Utopian Urbanism Workshop”) carried out in 2008, the Séminaire square being one of the potential project sites.

At the crossroads of art, territories and populations, our approach aims to promote the transition to sustainable, shared and welcoming cities, by proposing alternative ways of imagining and building our living environment and by exploring new forms of public space.
