The Strong bench

Furniture for collective use – sport – relaxation

The Don Bosco Institute works in the social and medico-social fields. The management of Don Bosco asked us to intervene initially in a building of lodging of young people, in order to produce a development defined starting from the desires of these young inhabitants.
During a first meeting, these young people with their educators told us that the designated space is not appropriate and that despite an intervention from us, they have no habit of use and do not plan to invest it further.
We brought this to the attention of the institute’s management and suggested that they move the subject outside to a green space. Equipped with a basketball court, a petanque court, and trees to shelter from the sun, the space was unanimously agreed to imagine a collective furniture to meet, to play sports.
5 days of work from Monday to Friday: a delivery of wood, a morning of drawings and writing of specifications, 10 young people in paid work, 5 builders.
At first recalcitrant to the project, we gained the confidence of the young people, their progressive adhesion and their investment were concretized by the manufacture of a generous furniture of 10 m linaire.
The muscular bench combines different proposals of bodybuilding, dips, weight bench, pull-up bar and punching bag. Plus group and individual seating with a large picnic table.
