The Secret Balconies # 3 – The Pinède balcony
Mosson Park
Montpellier

The Secret Balconies are contemplative installations that highlight the Mosson park and reveal its remarkable viewpoints.
Created as part of the overall park development project led by Base and Coloco, the aim is to gradually create a constellation of panoramic installations covering the three communes of Montpellier, Juvignac and Grabels.
The Secret Balconies are located on the edge of the park and in the immediate proximity of residential areas, so as to offer local residents and walkers easy access places to take a break and look around.
The Pinède balcony was designed by 24 students from the Situation master’s programme at the Montpellier School of Architecture. The students met on two occasions with a group of residents and associations mobilised by Passe Muraille, which is in charge of consultation on the overall Mosson project. They suggested revisiting the picnic tablecloth that is laid out on the ground for those bucolic moments shared with family and friends.
The tablecloth consists of two painted wooden platforms, each measuring 4m. They are set in the landscape, in the shade of the pine forest. They offer an infinite range of possibilities: you can sit, lie down, contemplate, read, programme small art forms, have a picnic, of course… They open up your view of both the park and the neighbourhood.
