The Bancales

Zenith Toulouse Metropolis

Wooden furniture for furnishing the outdoor terraces of the Zénith de Toulouse Métropole.

To meet the needs of the Zénith de Toulouse and its audience, Bruit du frigo designed and manufactured a series of seats, tables, and bar tables that can be adjusted and installed on the concert hall’s outdoor terraces.

These 55 wooden pieces of furniture offer nearly 400 seats and are unique in that each one has a crooked leg, giving them a playful and deceptively wobbly appearance.

The bar tables are topped with metal weather vanes that take advantage of the gusts of wind in front of the Zénith to turn the works attached to them. Every two years, the Zénith will invite a new artist from Toulouse to renew this perched exhibition. Each of these weather vanes is crowned with a letter spelling out the word “Zénith.”

For this first edition, Toulouse artist Pipocolo has specially designed a series of works revisiting iconic album covers. All of Pipocolor’s illustrations can be found at the bottom of the page.

Can you spot the references to music album covers hidden in these illustrations?
